Myvatn Nature Baths Iceland

Be sure to visit the treasure of north Iceland, Myvatn Nature baths. The Lagoon is located in the heart of north-east Iceland about 105 kilometers (65 miles) south of the Arctic Circle. In the area you will also find the famous Lake Mývatn with its unique nature and rich birdlife. The area is one of Europe´s greatest natural treasures.

The water that runs in the lagoon comes straight from the National Power Company´s spring called Bjarnarflag. The water has a temperature of about 130°C (266 °F), but when it arrives to the beautiful lagoon the heat is 36 – 40°C (96-104 °F), so it is really wonderful experience to bathe in this natural hot spring. This man-made lagoon is relatively big, the basin contains around 3.5 million liters of water. The Myvatn nature baths are often called the blue lagoon of the north Iceland.

The Myvatn Nature baths is a man-made construction. To keep it as natural as possible, its bottom is covered by sand and gravel. The characteristics of the water are unique in many ways. The water contains a large amount of minerals and is excellent for bathing. Due to its chemical composition, undesired bacteria and vegetation do not thrive in the lagoon, making chloride or any other disinfectant redundant.

The Myvatn Nature Bath hot springs are considered to have a positive effect on asthma and other respiratory diseases, and many of the trace elements in the water are considered to have a good effect on the development of skin problems.
