ITINERARY:

Experience the ultimate Iceland tour with our carefully curated itinerary. Iceland offers something special year-round. Here are the seasonal highlights of this tour:

 - From September to April, witness the enchanting Northern Lights painting the sky with their vibrant hues. During this period, the glacier hike is replaced by an exhilarating exploration of the Crystal Ice Cave.

- In summer, bask in the radiance of the Arctic midnight sun, with opportunities to spot charming puffins along the coastline. Keep an eye out for reindeer sightings in the East. Additionally, September offers the chance to partake in a traditional sheep round-up in the countryside, providing insight into authentic rural life.

Day 1: Golden Circle and South Coast Exploration

Embark on an exhilarating journey beginning with pick-up from your designated location in Reykjavík at 08:00 am. Please be prepared for a 30-minute pick-up process, allowing for a brief wait depending on your location in Reykjavik. Our first day is dedicated to uncovering the wonders of the renowned Golden Circle.

Our first stop is at Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site celebrated for its geological and historical significance. Here, in 930 CE, Icelanders established their historic Parliament, Alþingið, marking one of the earliest instances of democratic governance in the world. Witness the dramatic setting where the Law Speaker proclaimed laws, with the mighty rift valley as the backdrop, as the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates continue to diverge, shaping the landscape.

Next, we venture to the Geysir hot spring area, home to the iconic Strokkur hot spring that erupts with impressive jets of hot water and steam at regular intervals. Marvel at the bubbling fumaroles and immerse yourself in the geothermal wonders.

Our journey culminates at the majestic Gullfoss waterfall, where the Hvítá (White River) cascades down from Langjökull (Long Glacier), creating a breathtaking display of natural beauty. Feel the misty spray and witness the golden hues shimmering in the sunlight as the waterfall plunges 32 meters in two stages.

En route to our accommodations at a charming country hotel near Kirkjubæjarklaustur, we stop by both Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls. Seljalandsfoss offers a unique experience, allowing you to walk behind the cascade for a distinctive perspective.

Explore the mystical Reynisfjara black sand beach, adorned with the striking Reynisdrangar peaks, and delve into the basalt column cave for an atmospheric encounter.

Your overnight stay will be at the Adventure Hotel Geirland or a similar establishment, situated near the quaint town of Kirkjubæjarklaustur, offering an ideal setting for potential Northern Lights sightings between September and April, weather permitting.

Day 2: Vík – Skaftafell – Glacier Lagoon Adventure

Today, we embark on an exciting journey through some of Iceland's most stunning landscapes. Our first stop is the mighty Mýrdalsjökull glacier, home to the famous Katla volcano hidden beneath its icy surface. If the weather is clear, you might catch a glimpse of this powerful volcano! As we drive through the Eldhraun lava field, you'll see evidence of past volcanic eruptions stretching as far as the eye can see.

Next, we arrive at Skaftafell in Vatnajökull National Park, a true gem nestled amidst the rugged black sand desert. Here, you'll find lush green birch forests and vibrant vegetation, offering a stark contrast to the surrounding landscape.

Get ready for an adventure as we embark on a three-hour glacier hike led by our expert guide. From April to October, we'll explore one of Vatnajökull's outlet glaciers, the largest in Europe. Alternatively, from October to April, we'll venture into the magical depths of a Crystal Ice Cave, a truly unforgettable experience.

Our journey continues to the famous Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, where you'll be mesmerized by the sight of icebergs floating in the glacial waters. Don't miss the chance to visit the nearby Diamond Beach, where icebergs wash ashore on a backdrop of black sand, creating a stunning contrast.

In the evening, we'll settle into comfortable accommodations in the Southeast area, offering a cozy retreat and a chance to catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights if conditions are right.

Day 3: East Fjords Exploration - Djúpivogur - Wilderness Center

Today, we venture into the captivating landscapes of Iceland's East Fjords, immersing ourselves in the rugged beauty of the coastline. Our journey takes us along narrow roads, offering breathtaking views of the remote Hvalnes Peninsula and the dramatic Þvottárskriður landslides between Lóns and Álftafjarðar.

Our first stop is Djúpivogur, a quaint fishing village steeped in tradition. Here, you'll discover the charming outdoor sculpture known as Eggin í Gleðivík, or The Eggs of Merry Bay, adding a touch of whimsy to this picturesque setting.

Continuing our adventure, we arrive at the Wilderness Center, nestled halfway between Europe's largest glacier, Vatnajökull, and Lake Lagarfljót. This living history center offers a multitude of activities including hiking, biking, horse riding, and more. Immerse yourself in Icelandic culture as you explore the center's exhibitions, which span a 3-kilometer trail showcasing life in the wild highlands. During your stay, you'll have complimentary access to the museum's exhibitions, allowing you to delve deeper into Iceland's rich history and heritage.

Step back in time as you cross an old wooden bridge and enter historic buildings, where you'll be greeted with meals crafted from fresh local ingredients in an open kitchen. After a day of exploration, unwind in the hot spring spa, reminiscent of the baths used by Vikings centuries ago. Day 4: Stuðlagil Canyon - Mývatn - Goðafoss - Akureyri Exploration

Today, we embark on a journey to the northern reaches of Iceland, starting from Egilsstaðir. Our first destination is the captivating Stuðlagil Canyon, renowned for its mesmerizing basalt rock formations that weave through the wilderness.

Continuing our adventure, we delve into the mystical landscapes surrounding Lake Mývatn, a designated nature reserve adorned with lava fields and volcanic craters. Here, you'll have the option to visit the Myvatn Nature Baths, a renowned geothermal spa where you can unwind in mineral-rich waters heated by underground volcanic activity, offering rejuvenation for both body and soul.

Prepare to be enchanted as we venture into the surreal landscapes of the Námaskarð geothermal area, where boiling hot springs, steaming fumaroles, and vividly colored mud pots create an otherworldly ambiance. Our exploration continues to the breathtaking Dimmuborgir formations, aptly named the Dark Castles.

As the day unfolds, we make our way to the magnificent crescent-shaped Goðafoss waterfall, the perfect finale before reaching Eyjafjörður, a picturesque fjord framed by towering mountains.

Tonight, we'll rest at a country hotel in Akureyri, offering a cozy retreat and the opportunity to explore this charming fishing town in the north. If you're visiting between September and April, step outside your guesthouse for a chance to witness the mesmerizing Northern Lights dancing across the night sky.

Day 5: Whale Watching in Dalvík - Siglufjörður - Tröllaskagi - Laugarbakki Exploration

Today's journey begins with a potential short stop in Akureyri, known as the Capital of the North, offering glimpses of its charming scenery along Eyjafjörður (the Island Fjord) as we head towards the quaint fishing town of Dalvík.

Prepare for an unforgettable experience as we embark on a whale-watching adventure from Dalvík's traditional working harbor. During the 3-hour boat trip, keep your eyes peeled for sightings of humpback whales, white-beaked dolphins, minke whales, and if luck is on our side, perhaps even the majestic blue whale gracing the bay with its presence.

After our maritime expedition, we venture to Siglufjörður, a picturesque fishing village steeped in history. In the early 20th century, this remote community flourished as the herring fishing capital of the Atlantic, exuding a vibrant gold rush atmosphere.

Our journey continues along the scenic Tröllaskagi, or the Troll Peninsula, offering panoramic views of Iceland's stunning ocean landscapes and renowned skiing areas. Explore the characterful small villages nestled on this peninsula, providing insight into the unique lifestyle of remote Icelandic communities. As we traverse thriving agricultural areas, we make our way to Laugarbakki, where we'll spend the night at a cozy hotel (or similar).

In the winter evenings, don't miss the opportunity to chase the mesmerizing Northern Lights, a breathtaking spectacle painting the sky with vibrant hues of green, purple, and blue (September-April).

Day 6: Borgarfjörður - Reykholt - Hraunfossar - Hvalfjörður - Reykjavik

As we embark on our final day, we find ourselves in the captivating landscapes of West Iceland. Our day begins with a short hike up to Grábrók, a volcanic crater offering breathtaking views of the surrounding lava field and the entire area on clear days. Borgarfjörður boasts numerous splendid sights, which will be the focus of our exploration today.

Our journey takes us to the remarkable Deildartunguhver hot spring, known for its legendary heat, followed by a visit to the enchanting Barnafoss waterfall, also known as the Children's Waterfall. Marvel at the unique Hraunfossar cascade, where water emerges straight out of the lava field, creating a mesmerizing display.

Next on our itinerary is the historic and picturesque site of Reykholt, once the home of Snorri Sturluson, the renowned Icelandic historian, lawyer, politician, poet, and author of several Icelandic Sagas. Explore Snorralaug, Snorri's pool, and feel the temperature of the water in the very place where Snorri likely bathed.

As we make our way back to Reykjavik, we'll drive along the scenic fjord of Hvalfjörður, or Whale Fjord, soaking in the picturesque vistas along the way. Our journey concludes as we arrive in the capital city around 5 - 6 pm.

Driving distances on the tour?

Embark on scenic drives through Iceland, covering an average of 300 km (186 miles) each day. Anticipate spending approximately 4-5 hours in transit daily, punctuated by stops for sightseeing, activities, restroom breaks, and lunch breaks. Rest assured, the journey is as captivating as the destinations themselves."

Pick-up information

Pick-up is at 08:00 am from your hotel or a nearby meeting point in Reykjavík. Picking everyone up can take up to 30 minutes, your patience is much appreciated. You can see available pick-up points in the booking machine.

For solo travelers, it's essential to select the single room supplement when booking to guarantee a private room. Failure to pay the single room fee may result in sharing a room with another solo traveler of the same gender.

Occasionally, we may need to alter the glaciers or glacier outlets visited on this tour due to various factors, such as weather conditions. Glacier outlets featured on this tour include Svínafellsjökull, Falljökull, and Sólheimajökull, each offering unique and stunning experiences. From October to April, the glacier hike is replaced with a journey through the Crystal Ice Cave.
